WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) May 16. A visit to the Waitara Tennis Club’s new courts, on the Camp Reserve, opens one’s eyes to the remarkable transformation that has taken place in a comparatively short apace of time. The spot was always an uneared-for one, being overgrown with fern and unsightly; but now green grass has taken its place, owing to the energies of the club’s members. The club have under way many other improvements, and it promises to be, like its next-door neighbour the bowling green, one of Waitara’s beautyspots. A complimentary social was tendered to Miss F. Smart in the Tikorangi Hall on Friday night last, in honor of her forthcoming marriage. Fifty couples were present, and a most enjoyable time was spent. Mr. Ivan Vickery, on behalf of those present, eulogised the work undertaken by Miss Smart in various ways, and he wished the young lady the best of good fortune. Mr. Geo. Foster replied on behalf of Miss Smart. The music" supplied by Mr. F. Boulton was excellent, and dancers were looked after by Messrs Vickery and Jury, M.C.’s.
