ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE DIGGERS. SEASON ENDS TO-NIGHT. Tn spite of all the rain, the Empire Theatre was crowded again last nighf, when Tne Diggers repeated their piquant "show.” Judging by the enthusiastic reception accorded to each and all the artists, there was but one opinion amongst the large audience, viz., that the entertainment was clever and enjoyable. From start to finish, the programme went with a swing and carried the audience with it. At the close of the performance Mr. Fama expressed the satisfaction of the comapny at the large audience in spite of bad weather,, and the enthusiastic way in which the first attempt at community singing had been received in New Plymouth. He notified that it would be neld again to-day, from 12.30 to 1.30 p.m. To-night is the concluding performance of this season, when last night’s programme will be repeated. THE PEOPLE’S. A DOUBLE-FEATURE BILL TO-NIGHT The programme for to-night and tomorrow at The People’s will consist of a double-feature bill starring William Russell in “The Roof Tree’ and Barbara Bedford in "Cinder&lla of the Hills.” "The Roof Tree,” said to be a most exciting story of the Kentucky hills, will bring Hilliam Russell to the front as an exponent of forceful acting. It tells a striking story of a young Virginian who falls in love with a Kentucky girl, after a murder i-n his home town has forced him to flee to Kentucky to escape the wrath of the slain man’s family. As may be assumed from the title, much of the picture concerns the influence that a magnificent roof tree exerts on the lives of the Virginian and his new associates. “Cinderella of the Hills” is a charming romance of a woodland mystery. The usual charges of admission will be made. “EXPERIENCE” COMING THURSDAY. The big Paramount super-picture, “Experience’’ will be screened at The People’s on Thursday and Friday. The most brilliant, the most dazzling photoplay ever conceived, that is “Experience,” and what is more, it is played by the greatest aggregation of screen artists ever brought together for a single production. Gorgeous gowns, wonderful scenes of night life amid Broadway’s gayest resorts, are contrasted with dramatic situations against the background of vice in the underworld of a big city. Running through it all is the simple, tender little human love-story that will tug at the heart of all who are or ever have been young. A drama moulded of every breed of human clay glowing with a soul. A spectacular, brilliant, flashing, and colorful production that has and will continue to break all previous records as a box-office attraction. “Experience” will be screened at the usual super-feature prices, viz.: D.C. 2s, stalls Is 6d. The box plans are at Collier’s.

EVERYBODY’S. “BITS GF LIFE* To-night will see the final screening at Everybody’s of the unique Marshall Neilan feature. This picture is one that offers a new idea in the art of the silent drama. “Bits of Life” presents the short-story magazine idea on the screen in a manner never before attempted. Each story has a different type of plot, the first episode disclosing a satire, the second a comedy-drama, the third a melodrama, and the fourth a farce which is expected to send the patrons away with a laugh. The cast includes the largest assemblage of noted players ever offered in one Neilan picture, with such favorites as Wesley Barry, John Bowers, Lon Chaney. Rockliffe Fellowes, Harriet Hammond, Anna May Wong, and Noah Berry. This, is a Marshall Neilan First National feature. The new programme for to-morrow will be headed by a Vitagraph feature ’-The Romance Promoters,” starring Earle Williams.

EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. Last Saturday night the first of a series of euchre parties and dances was held in the Fitzroy school, and proved to be a great success, everybody enjoying themselves. Eighty-two euchre players kept the officials in the euchre room busy, the sixteen games played during the evening were fast and lively. Miss Willie and Mrs. T. Lister tied for the ladies’ first prize with 12£ games each, the latter winning in the play-off. Miss Willis kindly donated the second prize to the' school funds. Mr. Parkinson won the men’s first prize with 12| games, Mr. F. Jury taking the second prize with 12 games. There were about thirty couples in the dance room, th* M.C. keeping them dancing on a tip-top floor to good music, making a very enjoyable evening. The supper was supplied by the ladies of the district, and for quality and quantity could not have been beaten. The ladies’ committee had supper on the tables as soon as the euchre was finished, an act which was highly appreciated, especially by those who had to catch a breakwater car. The committee are to be congratulated on the success of the evening, and hope by maintaining the high standard of entertainment set by last year’s commitee to have another successful year.
