Hides.—Market firm for all weights with condition and substance, but medium lights and inferior sorts declined a farthing. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. A WONDERFUL MARKET. Sydney, May 13. The Telegraph, commenting on the animation of the wool market, says that seldom has the demand for merinos been so widespread as to-day. Seldom, if ever, have the general conditions of the market been so favorable to growers. It is truly a wonderful market. As prices go up the demand seems to widen and accentuate. Practically all sections are operating, and all are eager to secure supplies before xne season enas. Buyers unable to fill orders in the auction rooms have been keen operators privately. The crossbred position also shows a distinct improvement, though marked preference is revealed for the finer, free descriptions. The demand for very coarse burry sorts is still prejudiced by the big weight of B.A.W.R.A. low grade crossbreds remaining over from the apprisement scheme which hangs like a wet blanket over the ‘vade. BUTTER AND CHEESP. Messrs. Newton King, Ltd., have received a cable from their Glasgow agents, Messrs. R. W. Davidson, Ltd., London, as follows: Baited butter 166 s to 170 s, fresh l«6s to l«8s. At the lower price demand Is improving, and a steadier feeling Is prevailing. The cheese market is weak: White 72s to 745, colored 82s to 84s. THE POULTRY MARKET. Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co. report: Hens 2s Id to 3s 3d, cockerels 2s 9d to 7s fid, pullets 4s to 10s, ducks 2s 9d to 3s 6d, bentams 6d to 2s 2d.
