JUSTICES OF THE PEACE.
NEW PLYMOUTH ASSOCIATION, A meeting of Justices of the Peacd' was held in the jury-room at the New Plymouth Court-house on Saturday! evening, the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson)! presiding over an attendance of about--14 justices. ’ The object of the meeting was to forznl M . an association of justices, the reasons ■ for this being for promoting and pro- f tecting the status of J’s.P. generally, for protecting the honorable practices and suppressing malpractices, to settle disputes, and to decide on ail questions of usage, to ensure courtesy between justices, and for the exercise of mutual intercourse among the magistracy, as well as for advancing its status and enforcing the standard of administration among those honoured by His commission of peace. It was unanimously decided to form a New Plymouth and district Justicaa of the Peace Association, the question ofi affiliating with the Wellington association to be decided later. The Magistrate (Mr. A. M. Mowlem), was elected president, with Mr. F. C. JBellringer vice-president, and a committee of five was set up with Mr. Chaney as hon. secretary and treaaurea
