THE DAIRY POOL.

ENGLISH IMPORTERS' VIEWS, PRICE TO THE CONSUMEBS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. . Jjondon, May 12. Five of the principal importers of col*., onial produce, in a letter to the news*| papers, state that the promoters of th»' New Zealand dairy pool have no intention of establishing rings to hold up the price to consumers. Such an object .obViously unattainable, because the competition of dairy produce from other countries ensures the regulation of prices by the law of supply and demand. I The writers opine that the intereitd of the proviaion trade will be safeguarded by the promoters’ assurance, that they intend to distribute all produce through the existing trade ch*n.*j nels.

ANOTHER SIDE. A lEWS OF OTHER IMPORTERS. Received May 14, 5.5 p.m. London. May 13. Replying to the letter cabled yesteiM day, other importers of New Zealand produce, signing Themselves the majority, write: “The only difference of opim ion is whether the creation of a com-* pulsory pool is the best and only means to secure economies and greater efficiency in distribution of New Zealand pro* duce, or in the producers’ best interests* It may be that the five correspondents* as agents or promoters of the pool, feel themselves safeguarded as regards sup* plies, but no satisfactory assurance hast been offered to the rest of the trade* who are naturally loth to run the risk of scrapping their organisation in defer- r ence to the wishes of the promoters of A the compulsory pool, who may find themselves unable to carry out effectively aH the good intentions with which they an at present animated.” —Aus.-N.Z.
