CARPENTIER AND DEMPSEY. THE CARPENTIER—LEWIS FIGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 12. It Is definitely announced that articles hate been signed by Carpentier and Dempsey for a fight to take place in Europe before June, 1923. Carpentier states that the American climate upset him, and he believes he can beat Dempsey in London or Paris. It is understood the purse will amount to £75,000, two-thirds going to the winner and one-third to the loser. Descamps, interviewed, said that Carpentier, understanding in-fighting, summed up Lewis' tactics from the first rush. During the final clinch Carpentier Lewis groggy by means of left upper-cuts, and saw he could and must deliver a coup de grace at the moment of the break-away. The fairness of the blow could not be questioned under any rules. Lewis' manager, Harvey, made a statement that the referee was holding and talking to Lewis at the moment of the knock-out. Lewis did not admit he was beaten, and, later, the boxers lunched together, when Lewis, In a speech, said: "We are the beat of friends again." It is understood that Carpentier receives £7500 in addition to half the cinema rigtits, and Lewis £3500 and one-fifth of the cinema rights.

The Observer says that if tte public 5s gulled into accepting the proposed DempseyCarpentier match, as genuine, in winch Carpentier holds a chance of victory, they w'll get what they deserve, though the spec-taria will probably be of longer duration than the Jersey City fight..
