Webster is spending a holiday in Aucklkand and Rotorua. Mrs. Sandstone (Christchurch) is the guest of her sister, Mrs. W. H. Moyes. Miss G. MeKellar is staying with Mrs. H. Brown, of Inglewood, for a few days. Miss Tuke (Auckland) is visiting her sister, Miss Mavis Take. Mrs. Le May was hostess at a jazz party last Tuesday night. Mrs. B. Horner returns to Stratford to-day. Mrs. Paget (Palmerston North) is the guest of Miss Mackay. Miss Kirkby leaves this morning to visit friends at Okaiawa. • • • * Mrs. Truby King (Stratford) is in town for a short visit. • • ♦ • Miss Hilda Rollo left this morning on a visit to Wellington and Blenheim. Miss Tansley (Napier) is staying with Mrs. G. Qrover. Miss Alison Payne (Wanganui) is the guest of Mrs. Winfield. • • • • Mrs. T. P. Anderson leaves for Wellington on Tuesday. Mrs. Walter Bayly and Miss Gwen Bayly have left for a trip to Auckland. ♦ • • • Mrs. Honan (Auckland), who has been the guest of Mrs. Fred. Honan, left for Wangarei this morning. Mrs. T. A. Milroy and Mrs. R. H. Chaney, who have been spending a few days in Hawera, return to-night. Miss Foster, who has been staying with Mrs. Monteath, left on Tuesday for the Bay of Islands. • » • • Mrs. Kirkby, Mrs. L. A. Nolan, and Miss Evie Fookes motored to Hawera for the races this week. THE Y.W.CJL A meeting of the Y.W.C.A. board was held at the hostel on Thursday. Present: Mesdames G. A. Walker (chair), Alexander, O. Blundell, List, Weston, Misses Hodder, Harrison, and Roughton. Apologies were received from Mesdames W. Ambury, A. Ambury, Mills, and MacDiarmid.
Miss Roughton reported that during the month there had been 33 girls in residence at the hostel. Miss Gee had held two home-nursing classes, which had been most instructive and interesting. There had been an average of 39 girls each night.
Many girls liad availed themsejves of the use of the rest-room and dining-room at the hostel. A hot dinner or tea can always be procured, and many more girls this month have taken advantage of the privilege. There will be vacancies for some permanent girls now that the busy season is over. It will not be necessary to keep many rooms free for casuals through, the winter. The secretary was requested to write to the manageemnt of the picture theatres, thanking them for their generous donation of a cheque.
AFTERNOON TEA DANCE. A Tea Dance has been arranged for Thursday afternoon, May 18, at * the Workers’ Social .Hall, in aid of funds for the ladies’ Taranaki golf tournament. The committee for the dance is: Mesdames E. A. Walker, C. H. Weston. Walter Weston, Barthorpe, Mi,lroy, J. C. Nicholson, R. H. Quilliam, T. P. Anderson, H. B. Gray, and B. H. Chaney, , the Misses Simpson, Bremer, T. Thompson, Greig, Home, and 0. Shaw. It is not an invitation dance, and it is not restricted to members of the club. Several Wellington players, including Mrs. Guy Williams, the New Zealand ladies’ champion, also Wanganui players, have expressed their intention of competing in the tournament to be held on the 24th and 25th, on the New Plymouth golf course. The ladies committee’ therefore, wish to make the tournament a great success.
