EXPERIMENTS BEING MADE. SATISFACTORY RESULTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Minister for Health (Hon. C. X Parr), replying to a southern paper’s coat* ment to the effect that the Health Department was not doing anything in the wajr of experiments in the treatment of said he had received a report from Dr. Wilkin, director of the School of Hygiene, who stated that experiments in the treatment of goitre in school children, by the administration of very small doses of iodine, were being carried on by De, Eleanor Baker, school medical officer at Christchurch. It will, however, be necessary to study the effects for a number of years before any decided pronoun earnest can be made as to permanent results. Altogether 596 children had been undent treatment, and observations had also been, kept of 756 untreated children. So Co* the results are, on the whole, very satisfactory, and the experiments proved weH worth while. Similar results were obtained by Dr. Gunn, school medical inspector at Wanganui. Mr. Parr said he was asking Dr. B&kerand Dr. Hercus, of the Medical School at the University of Otago, who had been making investigations, to report specifically on their treatment, methods and experiments.
