SOLD TO PAY PRINCESS’ DEBTS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, May 9. The historic Daryjai Noor diamond, owned by Princess Fatima Sultana, of Afghanistan, was sold at auction for 5500 dollars in order to liquidate liens on the diamond totalling more than 4000 dollars for various hotel bills, attorney’s fees, etc., which the Princess had not paid. Immediately before the auction she refused au offer of 9500 dollars for the jewel, hoping to obtain 300,000 dollars, with which to send her three sons, who were present at the auction, to Oxford.—Aus.-N.Z.
