HOSTILITY TO BRITAIN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 11, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, May 11. A circular printed in Tongan, protesting against the British interferences in the internal affairs of the Tongan Government, has reached Sydney. It warns Tongans that their country has been bartered by unscrupulous people of rank, who will forcefully take it, and advises them to love their country and not squander the money received for produce ( on decorations for women, but in arms and ammunition, to save their country from the big, forceful, grasping Empire. It also demands that Britain should show a proper respect for Tonga without violating the Treaty. The circular concludes: “God bless Queen Charlotte, who has no protector.” This was written by a committee of the society Who shoot people for the love of their country. The translator points out that the circular is written in such bad Tongan and, so worded, it can easily be detected a's tlie work of a European or foreigner.
