MALE CHOIR.
THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Male Choir Society was held last night. There was a good attendance of members, over which Mr. Fulton preThe annual report stated: During the season 1921 the choir’s work met with a fair measure of success and fair prooress has been made in the direction of improving the standard of the society’s effort*. It is amply proved by the support hitherto accorded that m this town the choir has established itself as a permanent institution. At the beginning of last season the subscribers’ roil stood at 102. At the present time they number 140. The number on the roll of active members is now 40, and with very few exceptions all are regular attenders. Appreciation is due to our conductor, Mr. McLeod. Only those closely associated with him can realise the hard work he has done, not only in the practice room, but in organising and carrying out sectional practices. Thanks are due also to Mr. Harold Morey, our pianist, who has rendered valuable and efficient service. Thanks were also accorded to the hall committee, especially Mr. J. J. Powell, to Mr. Little and his party of ushers, to the committee, headed by the chairman (Mr. N. Fulton), to the artists collectively, and to the Press. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £25 13s.
On the motion of Mr. McLeod, seconded by the chairman, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson); president, Dr. E. A. Walker; vicepresidents, Archdeacon F. G. Evans. Messrs. C. H. C. G. Barthorpe, A. S. Brooker, A. M. 'Mowlem, S.M., C. H. Weston, W. T. Hookham, Dr a. Leatham, Fookes and Home, Mr. A. W. Webster; secretary, Mr. A. E. Brooker; assistant secretary, to be elected later; treasurer, Mr. H. Bullen; librarian, Mr. J. Walker; committee, Messrs. A. B McDonald, D. H. Thomson, N. Fulton, J. J. Powell, H. J. Watkins, and W. G. Reid; auditor, Mr. G. H. White; conductor, Mr. F. W. G. McLeod; pianist, Mr. H. Morey.
A resolution expressing appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. A. B. McDonald as secretary was passed by acclamation. Mr. McDonald intimated that he was unable to accept re-election. The chairman intimated that the first concert of the season will be held on May 31. The Hawera Society had promised to send a minimum of 20 members to assist.
Mr. D. H. Thomson moved that the society hold two concerts and a social evening for subscribers during the year. —Carried.
