Owing to a storm of protest throughout the Cape Province against the recently announced taxation proposals, especially the income-tax for educational purposes, the administration has practically withdrawn the whole scheme and also abolished the existing turnover tax, substituting a sales tax of 2 per cent.

THE KING IN FRANCE. London, May 8. During hie continental tour the King will visit the cemeteries, including Eta pies, Pozieres. and Malencourt. He will be accompanied by the War Graves Commission.
