Tawhltl Road.—There has been one tank of tar put on this road, and if the weather holds fine enough it would be advisable to do the whole length, as there is a lot of traffic and the new metal 13 showing signs of getting into pot-holes. Morea Road.—There Is a track cut througli the slips to Beard's Estate, wide enough for dray traffic and this can be widened later when it- is drier. Six hundred yards of gravel from Mr. Scott’s pit has been dumped on the Otokl Road, in readiness to cart to the Mells Road, as soon as the lorry is available. Metal is being produced from Lander's Pit for patching purposes, and some of it Is now being taken to the Allen Hoad. The hill below Mr. W. Williams’ residence is worn through, and will hate to be refaced; also about ten chains by the school, and the wheel tracks are being filled In where required. Two teams have been carting shingle to the chute for the lorries to take to the Ahipaipa, Scott, Normanby and Tawhiti Roads. One team is engaged on the beach and the other is carting from Lander’s Pit.’ TONGAHOE RESERVE. In connection with the Tongahoe reserve, it was reported that Mr. Wills was prepared to lease the ground for five or seven years at £.5 per annum, under certain conditions. After discussion it was decided to lease the reserve for a term of five years, the council reserving the right to resume possession at any time and to pay compensation for improvements. A man camping on the reserve is to be given notice to remove. ANTECEDENT LIABILITY. The Pahiatua County Council asked support to the resolution (previously reported) relating to a Government loan for file payment of local bodies’ antecedent liability.—The chairman thought the council would be quite right in supporting the resolution. There should be a possibility of local bodies jointly raising a loan in London to be distributed for the purpose of extinguishing their respective liabilities. The resolution was unanimously supported. In regard to a request that the council take steps to have certain portions of the Ohawe opened, it was decided to take no action, the chairman stating that the road was of no use to any ratepayer, Cr. Larcom reported that the streets in Nolantown were found to be in fairly good order, and he would not recommend any expenditure thereon at the present time. The report was adopted. Mr. E. A. Drake, Okaiawa, was granted a license for a billiard saloon, the fee to be £2 2s. In connection with an application for a hawker’s license by Mr. Bradley, the chairman said the fee was £lO for a year and £7 10s for six months. Mr. Bradley wished to take out a license from month to month, but the by-law made no provision for a shorter period than six months,' and he would move that Mr. Bradley be notified accordingly.

In reply to a member, the chairman said that a man selling fruit or perishable goods need not take out a license, neither was it necessary for a man to have a license who took orders and delivered later. The motion was carried.

The chairman sai dthey' had had the auditor putting the books in order, and he desired a resolution passed wiping off irrecoverable rates. The necessary resolution was passed. Some of the outstanding rates dated back to 1908.
