Orders for papers may also ba left with him. NEW POST OFFICE. May 5. Mr. R. Masters, M.P., waited on the Pastmaster-General at Wellington this morning in reference to the erection of the new post office at Stratford, and urged that fresh tenders be called at once. The Minister (Hon. J. G. Coates) assured the member for Stratford that instructions would be given forthwith or the calling of tenders, and if a satisfactory tender was received, the building would be proceeded with. PLUNKET SOCIETY. A meeting of the committee of the Plunket Society place on Wednesday. The nur port for the month of April was rea- follows (figures for same month of last year in brackets): 13 new babies (9), adults visits to rooms 113 (€0), babies brought to rooms ! 105 (67), visits to homes 83 (62). Toko was visited twice. The following names were added to the membership list: Mesdames Carryer, L. Webster, Gardiner, Macßarron, R. B. Anderson, Malfroy, Briscoe. Mrs. Martin was officially appointed to undertake the management of the flowers for sale, the proceeds of which go to the society’s funds. At the suggestion of Mrs. T. Smith, of Wharehuia, Dr. Gordon and Plunket Nurse Ewart very kindly consented to visit that district on a specified Thursday afternoon to give a lecture to the mothers who wished to become familiar with the Plunket methods of child rearing. THE RAILWAY BALL. The railway ball in the Stratford Town Hall last night was a distinct success and a credit to the committee responsible for its management. In spite of the fact that this was only the second annual ball conducted by the railway committee nothing was left undone to insure its success and the function would appear to be established as one of the best of its kind in Taranaki. A number of dancers were present from as far south as Hawera, some 150 couples taking the floor. An excellent supper was served and the floor was all that could be desired. The decorations were strikingly carried out in a pleasant color scheme, and McCarthy's orchestra, of Kaponga, was responsible for one of the most important items—the music. Messrs. H. C. Martin, E. M. Franks, S. L. Cummane and N. P. Casey assiduous- • ly carried out the duties of M.C.’s. Country subscribers not receiving their Daily News regularly are asked to immediately notify our circulation manager, care Mr. W. H. Humphrey, Stratford. Complaints will receive prompt attention. Call at W. BL Humphrey’s (Stratford News office) and inspect a consignment of leather and wood-work articles in ' marquetry and poker-work. Beautiful i wedding or birthday presents.
