CAPTAIN SOOTT QUOTED. By Press Assn. —C«ypyrigtit London, May 3. Sir James Barrie has been installed, as Rector of St. Andrew’s University. In his inaugural address on the subject of courage he read a hitherto unpublished letter which Captain Scott wrote to Sir James Barrie from th® Antarctic: “We are pegging out in a comfortless spot. I write you a word of farewell. We are in a desperate state. Our feet are -frozen; we hav® no fuel, and are a long way from food, but it would do your heart good to hear our songs and cheery conversations.” Later Captain Scott wrote words which were difficult to read: “We very near the end. We had mtendyl to finish ourselves, but decided to di® naturally.” The letter was found beside CaptajßF Scott’s body.
