BONUS TO WORKERS.
COURT’S DECISION NEXT WEEK. THE QUESTION OF EXEMPTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Arbitration Court to-day discussed the procedure by unions in connection with applications for exempt.un from any order for a reduction of the bonus. Mr. I. Bloodworth said the procedure was set out in the Act, but he understood that- some question had been raised as to the necessity for a ballot. Mr. E. Wright (secretary of the Auckland Employers’ Association) said he would not object to the ballot being dispensed with if the case was reasonable.
His Honor said the best course would be for the Court not to lay down any general rule, and if no objection was taken by Mr. Wright in what appeared to be a reasonable case, the Court might be able to deal with the matter. The best answer he could give was that it would be unsafe for the Court to make a general order against a matter which Parliament had deemed necessary. If Mr. Wright objected, there was the law, and it could not be departed from. The Court would make a pronouncement regarding the bonus on or before Monday. Mr. Wright said he would not opposa any reasonable applications.
