DOES ANZAC CONCERN NEW ZEALAND?
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I am writing to tell you I have been, informed of something in which some people concerned have made a teri rifely poor show of their patriotism o’wards their country by ignoring our | brave soldiers, wh fought and tell a Anzac to save us, r i ours, from destruction. It comes iv -nt in the following way: The shareholders of the Pukearuhe (White Cliffs) Dairy Company held a meeting last Tuesday, Anzao Day, and, one patriot stood up, when the business was about to commence, and asked those present if it would not be too muth, trouble to maintain a silence of two , minutes in order to show that, besides thinking of themselves, they might think of others as well. The answer he received was that Anzac Day was not counted in New Zealand, only Armistice Day.; Henceforth the meeting was pushed ahead. Well, sir, does not that look to you as if these gentlemen look upon Anzac as if New Zealand had nothing to do with it? Why, bless my soul, if it had. not been for our brave lads at Anzac the war might still have been raging. Yet these people ignore the fact that New Zealand is concerned in Anzac Day. The best thing I can see for it is * that these gentlemen should forward a donation to the ILS.A., or some such like concern, whereby their past sins may ’be slightly atoned for. I am, etc., D.W.R. Pukearuhe, April 26.
