LONDON WOOL SALES. PRICES IMPROVING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 2. The wool sales opened strong at 7% per cent, to 15 per cent, advance. At the mixed wool sale 10,666 bales were offered, of which 3729 were New Zealand. There was a crowded attendance from all quarters, including Americans, who occasionally bid. The Continental and Home sections operated very freely. The most remarkable feature was the keen bidding for the lower grades of crossbreds and commoner merino combings. The excellent selection or merinos included choice parcels from Victoria, Queensland, and the rest of Australia, which were keenly competed for. All combings were 10 per cent, above March, and scoureds advanced 15 per cent. t Fine crossbreds were in small supply, and there was a strong demand at 1% per cent, advance; medium and lower 10 per cent., scoured 10 per cent., slipes, mostly inferior and wasty, advanced a halfpenny to a penny. ' Lambs were on a parity with fullest March rates.
TALLOW STOCKS. Tallow stock 6068 tons, tanports 1921 tons, deliveries 1617 tons. SPIRITED BIDDING AT TIMARU. Timaru, May 3. The final wool sale was held to-day. There was a catalogue of 5000 bales, and a fair bench of buyers. Three woollen mills were absent, but the principal firms were represented. Bidding was very spirited, and about 98 per cent, of the offerings were sold. A fair selection of merino sold on par with last sales, half-bred Id to 2%d advance, three-quarter-bred %d to l%d, crossbred par to %d advance.
