ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At the Police Court, to-day, William George Rashleigh was committed for trial on four of obtaining sums totalling £350 by false pretences. It was alleged he pretended he had a milk vendor’s business or was starting one, - and that he had secured premises at various centres. He had engaged men as branch managers, and in each case they were requested to invest £lOO in the business. He pleaded not guilty. MISHAP TO THE NAVUA. Auckland. Last Niglit. The Navua, which returned to port, having lost her starboard rudder, was docked to-day, and is expected to resail to-morrow. A SECRETARY’S DEFALCATIONS. Wellington, May 3. Tn‘the Magistrate's Court, to-day, Wm. Henry Pollock, who some years ago was n. leading athlete and was lately secretary of Nelson, Moate, Ltd., pleaded •guilty to charges of theft of moneys of the firm totalling £927. It was stated during evidence that the total amount misappropriated was £274]. Pollock had control of practically the whole financial business of the company. The defalcations extended over a. period of six or seven years. Accused had surrendered himself, as he desired to clear the matter up. He was committed to t'he Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was Allowed in a surety of £5OO.
