TERRIBLE RUSSIA.

FAMINE AND DISEASE. DYING BY MILLIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 3, 12.35 a.m. Sydney, May 2. Professor Meredith Atkinson has returned from a visit to Russia. He thinks it will be ten years before the economic recovery of Russia is feasible. The Soviet Government is inefficient, and hampered by famine relief work. Famine and disease have spread over thousands of square miles of country. He sleighed along roads lined with corpses in the evening, and in the morning had seen where bodies had been stolen for food. He estimated that probably five million Russians would die this summer. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
