THE COAL INDUSTRY.

BIG LOSS IN WALES, By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received May 2, 810 p.m. Lon lon, May 2. The South Wales coal industry shows a marked improvement, though the owners continue to fare, badly. The disposable surplus over the standard profits for March amounted to £227,837, of which the owners are entitled under the settlement agreement to seventeen per cent. The balance being insufficient to pay the agreed minimum wages the owners sacrificed their share of the surplus, also giving £171,371 from the standard profits, which increased the loss since November to £1,300,000. — N.Z.
