INDIAN TROUBLES.
CALCUTTA PRISON MUTINY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Delhi, April 28. An inquiry into the Calcutta gaol mutiny elicited that two Hindu and five Mohammedan convicts were killed and about 40 convicts and gaolers wounded. The troops have been withdrawn, but armed police are guarding the neighbourhood. One escaped convict was recaptured yesterday. The Madras Government has sanctioned a compassionate grant of 300 rupees to the families of 80 Mophlas, who lost their lives in. the train asphyxiating tragedy. SITUATION QUIET. Delhi, April, 29. A fire started in the Calcutta gaol during the riot, and destroyed the workshops. The estimated damage amounts to three lacs of rupees (£20.000). The situation is fairly quiet, but the convicts are truculent. The gaol authorities have resumed control at Eglantoon, but soldiers are retained in case of further trouble. Forty-six convicts have been sent to hospital with gunshot wounds. Nineteen escaped during the turmoil; two have been arrested.
