CHURCH UNITY.

ANGLICAN SYNOD’S VIEWS. APPEAL TO OTHER CHURCHES. By Telegraph.—Press Association Auckland, Last Night. /-J The Anglican Synod to-day resumed the debate on Bishop Sedgwick’s motion regarding church unity. Bishop Averill moved as an amendment by way of addition that copies of the Lambeth appeal and the resolutions on union be sent to the leaders of the Christian Churches in New Zealand and that the churches be invited to co-operate with the Anglican Church in prayers, study and conference in view of the ultimate realisation of the Lambeth Union. A further amendment was moved by [Canon Wilford (Christchurch), substituting for the second half of the motion a clause urging the clergy and laity of the province to use every opportunity to get the resolutions passed at that conference, and this great question studied and discussed with members of other Christian bodies. Archdeacon Taylor seconded the latter amendment, warning the Synod against any action that would pledge it to a promiscuous interchange of preachers. Finally, at Canon Wilford's request, this amendment was withdrawn on the ground that it was subject to misunderstanding. The motion, with Dr. Averill’s amend-* ment, was carried unanimously.
