SENTENCE INCREASED.

DECISION OF APPEAL COURT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, April 28. The Court of Appeal delivered judgment this morning in the case of the King v. Redshaw, on the application by Redshaw for a reduction in his sentence of nine months’ imprisonment, imposed upon him at Napier for misappropriation of certain funds belonging to the Forresters’ Lodge. The judgment of the court was delivered by Sir Robert Stout, who stated the court was of opinion, in view of the seriousness of the offence, that the sentence was too light, and the court therefore, in exercising .its discretion, increased the sentence to 15 months’ imprisonment with hard labor. This case is the first in which the of Appeal has increased a sentence when application was made to it for a decrease.
