EAST AFRICA.

EFFECT OF SIWAMP SUBSIDENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Capetown, April 25. Advices from Nairobi states that the whole of the Kenya Province is cut off from Nairobi as the result of a subsidence in the Papyrus swamp on the Thika railway. The swamp, which is miles long and half a mile wide, suddenly broke up and carried away the main road, and railway bridges were damaged. The subsidence is believed to be the result of recent earthquakes in the vicinity. Water is pouring from subterranean caverns and the swamp is becoming a rushing mass 60 feet .wide. A new valley has been created.
