GUILTY OF MURDER.
DEATH OF A MAYOR By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received April 27, 11.30 p.m. Sydney, April 27. John Curran, found -guilty of murdering Thomas Hogan, Mayor of Moree, has been sentenced to death. The defence entered a plea of insanity. The accused, giving evidence, blamed Hagan for the loss of a stadium which he built at Moree, but for which he failed to. obtain a license to hold boxing contests, and he went shearing. While he was away Hogan, as mayor, obtained the permission of the Chief Secretary, broke the locks of the stadium and held a boxing test for patriotic purposes. He demanded to see ’Hogan’s authority for entering and during an altercation the tragedy occurred.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
