The High Commissioner's latest cable from London, dated April 22, reports:— Lamb.—A moderate demand; best quality remains firm; second-class weaker in competition with Australian. Mutton. —Demand remains good; prices same as last quotations. Beef. —Market weaker. Butter.—The demand for colonial has improved and better prices have been obtained. Cheese. —Demand steady and market firmer. WooL —Bradford market continues firm; prices for tops remain unchanged. DETAILS OF PRICES. Mutton.—'Light 8d to Bfd, medium 7Jd to Bd, heavy 6d to 7Jd. Ewes. —Light 6£d to 6Jd, medium sid to 53d, heavy 5d to 53d. Lamb.—Best heavy 103 d, ordinary North Island lid, second-class lOd. Beef.—-New Zealand hinds 4d, fores 23d. New Zealand butter.—Salted 180 s to 186 s, exceptional 188 s, unsalted 180 s to 184 s. Cheese (N.Z.). —Colored 92s to 945, white 84s to 86s. Casein (N.Z.). —Fresh rennet £6O and £42 a ton respectively. Hemp (Manila). —Steadier; buyers £34 5a a ton; New Zealand remains quiet at nominal quotations spot and April-June shipments high points £32 a ton, fair £3l. Wool. —46 super crossbred 2/SJ; 40 coarse crossbred prepared 1/OJ. The latest cable from Messrs. Weddel and Co. gives New Zealand, butter and cheese prices the same as above.
