NEAR EAST PEACE.
WHAT TURKEY WANTS. BASIS FOR NEGOTIATION. By Telegraph.—Tress Assn.—Copyright. Received April 24. 8.25 pan. Constantinople, April 24. The Kemalist reply to the Allied Note reiterates the demand for the absolute independence of Thrace and the Greek evacuation of Asia Minor simultaneously, beginning with the armistice. The note suggests an immediate conference of delegates for the purpose of holding preliminary pourparlers. If a ground for mutual understanding is discovered Turkey is willing to proceed with peace negotiations immediately. T’ -' principal Nationalist objection to the . dlied peace proposals will be the question of the reduction of the army. The Angora leaders determinedly oppose disarmament. owing to their distrust of the Entente. Kemal Pasha recently harangued Parliament, suggesting that the Entente’s sole object was to deprive Turkey of her means of defence.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
