TRIBE ATTACKS TRIBE.

A SENSATIONAL RAID. TORTURE AND SLAVERY. By Telegrapt.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received April 24, 10,50 pan. Capetown, April 24. Sensational allegations of arson, torture and slavery are being investigated by a Royal Commission under Sir Herbert Solciey in Becbuanaland. It is alleged that a number of warriors of King Khama, the most powerful native chief in South Africa, raided a tribe who had been settled for twenty years on a strip of land near the Limpopo River. The tribe had been ordered to leave, but refused. Khama’s warriors attacked the tribe, captured a large number, and looted and burned villages. The captives were treated as slaves, women outraged and some men tortured. This story was told by the refugees, who entered the Transvaal, but it is not suggested that Khama himself, who is a Christian chief, authorised the raid.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
