The farm manager reported that 52 cows were being milked, the quantity of milk for the month being 32,0861b5. The test for the first period was 4.2, for the second period 4.7, and for the third period 4.5. Field No. 1 had been drilled with Ruakura oats, and about two acres of soft turnips had also been drilled. There was about acres of ground in the mangold paddock, off which peas and beans had been previously taken, and the manager suggested that this should be put down in a crop suitable for hay for the coming season, to save time in the spring. The manager suggested that about 8 acres of oats should be sown about January for autumn feed. It was difficult, he stated, to get sufficient ground suitable for this purpose under the present cultivation. It would be advisable to clean up the paddock by the cottage and have this put into oats for the coming autumn. The report was adopted. THE RAILWAY STATION. Loud complaints were heard at the Stratford railway station last night when the express train rushed into a platform enshrouded in darkness. The only lights burning' were those immediately under the station roof, and the stand allotted to the most important train of the day is well j away from the building, the express giving * pride of place to the mixed south-bound train. The lights were only switched on to the northern platfonn when the express was alongside. Hie danger and discomfort of this condition of affairs was roundly condemned by the unusually large crowd gathered to welcome home the Easter holiday-makers. VALUATION COMMISSION. Mr. F. W. Flanagan, Valuation Commissioner, conducted a sitting of the commission in the Borough Council Chambers to-day, for the purpose of enquiring into fanners’ mortgages, in view of the financial difficulties at present being experienced, and mediating, where possible, between mortgagor and mortgagee. A number of fanners placed their positions before the commissioner, the proceedings being held in camera. The sitting will be continued and concluded to-morrow, the commission going on to Hawera on Friday. AVON BOWLING CLUB. Hie Avon Bowling Club’s Easter tournament proved a great success. Good Friday’s game remains unfinished between Jones (s.) and Bremner and Jackson (3.) and White. Saturday’s game was won by Judd (s.) and F. Wteston, and Monday’s by J. Masters (s.) and Bremner, after an exciting finish with Sturm (s.) and Jackson. The final for the singles championship was played on Saturday between North and Curteis, and resulted in a win for North, after a splendid game, by three points. The president welcomed the visitors. Mr. King, responding, thanked the club for their hospitality, and remarked upon the excellence of the green. Mr. J. C. Young also responded, and congratulated the club upon the splendid play of the green. AVON v. STRATFORD.
