Orders for papers may also be left with him. EAST ROAD DOG TRIALS. April 18. The annual trials of the East Road Dog Trial Club were held at Te W.era on Tuesday and Wednesday in fine weather. Complete arrangements for the gathering had been made by the committee, and two successful days were recorded. Luncheon, under the management of Mesdames Barwick and Bambury and Miss Barwick, was supplied on the Mrs. McAloon also assisting. Mr. E. Johnson, chairman of the club, had charge of the arrangements, and he was ably assisted by Messrs. H. Hansen, M. Dromgool, L. Kemp, D. Kemp, Garlick and Barwick, and other willing helpers. A smoke concert was held on the first night, and a social on the second, both proving enjoyable functions. Following are the results of the trials: Class 1 (local). —O. McAloon’s Nigger, 27 points, 1; H. Hansen’s Tip, 25 points; 2; E. Johnson’s Joe, 16 points, 3. Class 2 (long head). —H. Rolfe’s Fly, 4G points, 1, E. Johnson’s Nell, 45 points, 2, M. Scott’s Swift, 44 points, 3. Huntaway.—M. Scott’s Nell, 33 points, 1; O. McAloon’s Nigger, 32 points, 2; F. Spence’s Bob, 26 points, 3. Head, pull, drive and yard.—E. Johnson’s Rogue, 544 points, 1; W. Roger’s Scotty, 54 points, 2; E. Johnson’s Speed, 47 points, 3. The farmers’ cup and the huntaway cup were won by Mr. O. McAloon’s Nigger. The points cup (for highest points in classes 2 and 4) was won by E. Johnson’s Rogue, with 961 points.
BOWLING TOURNAMENT. The Stratford Easter bowling tournament proved most successful and interesting, and brought forward many surprises. Owing to the light it was impossible to complete the play on Monday night, and the finals will be finished to-morrow. Following are the results of the play to date: Section A.—Sanderson and Clark, 4 wins 3 Josses; Skoglund and Amess, 4 and 3; J. S. McDonald and Gaffaney, 3 and 4; Robins and Carryer, 3 and 4; Porritt and Finley, 5 and 2; Boyd and Young, five and 2. Section B.—Lyons-'and Old, 3 and 2; King and Brown, 2 and 3; Jackson and Hunt, 3 and 2; Patterson and Robinson, 0 and 5; Smart and Grubb, 4 and 1; Sangster and Woodhead, 3 and 2. In section A Porritt and Finlay and Boyd and Young were the winners. In section B, Smart and Grubb were the winners and Jackson and Hunt, Sangster and Woodhead, and Lyons and Old were the runners-up. In the play-off Jackson’s beat both Sangster and Lyons. The semi-finals resulted as follows: Porritt and Finlay 24 v. Boyd and Young 15; Smart and Grubb 16 v. Jackson and Hunt 23. WEDDING. BISHOP—MUDFORD. A pretty wadding was solemnised at St.Andrew’s Church, Stratford, on April 15, the Rev. Orange, of Eltham, officiating. The contracting parties were Miss May Mudford, of Stratford, and Mr. Allan Bishop, of Inglewood. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her grandfather, was daintily attired in a frock dress of white georgette and silk, beautifully embroidered, a hand-embroidered veil with orange blossoms, and carried a white bouquet. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Agnes Mudford, of Wellington, who wore a frock of pale green lace over silk, relieved with pink and black panne hat, and carried a Victorian posy of pink flowers. Mr. Roy Coutts, of Inglewood, carried out the duties of best man. Miss Millar presided at the organ. After the ceremony, the guests were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. G. Henry. The happy couple left later in the afternoon fnr the south, the ■ bride wearing a henna knitted frock, with hat to match.
GENERAL ITEMS. The nominations for election to the Stratford School Committee are: Messrs. G. Smith, W. Macdonald, W. Pinhey, H. A. Hunt, D. M. Clark, J. W. Boon, junr., W. Abraham and H. Sanderson. One more nominee is required, so that a ballot will be unnecessary. The election will take place on Monday night. An enjoyable ball, given by the Foresters, was held in the Town Hall last night, about two hundred being present. Mrs. Bianchi’s orchestra supplied the music, and extras were given by Misses Taylor and Stewart. Messrs. R. E. Plews and C. Whittington acted as M.C.’s. A benefit football match, to aid an injured All Black player, will be played on the A. and P. show grounds on Thursday, at 2.30 p.m. A large attendance is requested, the admission being 6d. The Cardiff War Memorial is to be unveiled by Mr. R. Masters, M.P., at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3.
