A message from Paris records the death of Henry Esmond, actor and dramatic writer.
A London cablegram announces that the wedding of Mr. Godfrey Holdsworth, formerly of Dunedin, with Lord Inverforth’s daughter, will take place on April 25.
At the annual meeting of the New Plymouth Fire Brigade last night Superintendent Bellringer was presented with a two years’ service bar, which brings his total service up to 37 years. Other awards earned by members of the brigade during the year were: Fireman H. Inch, 25 years, (gold star); S. Roberts, 23 years; W. Roch, 17 years; W. J. Bellringer, 5 years.
The Rev. Lewis Hudson, of Mt. Albert, Auckland, who died at a private hospital on Thursday, aged 66, was a well-known Methodist minister. He was born in Lon;don in 1856, and came to New Zealand in 1879, beginning his ministry at New Plymouth. In 1894 he was stationed at Devonport. Mr. Hudson went to Queensland in 1898, returning to New Zealand in 1903. From 1907 to 1911 he was minister at Sydenham, Christchurch. In the latter year he visited England and America, representing New Zealand at the Methodist Ecumenical Conference held at Toronto, Canada. For three years he was editor of the Methodist Times. On account of illhealth he became a supernumerary in 1914, and during that year did supply work at Linwood. Subsequently, however, he returned to circuit work, and fdr three years was stationed at Avondale, this being hie last circuit, and he retired in 1917. For a number of years he had been in failing health. He is survived by Mrs. Hudson, two sons and two daughters.
