A YOUNG HERO.
LONG STRUGGLE IN WATER. Rockhampton, March 1. That young Australia lives up to the Diggers’ traditions was shown by an occurrence at Yeppoon. Some boys were swimming in a waterhole, when one, Bob .Lippett, got out of his depth. His companions tried to rescue him with a pole, but failed. Their outcries were heard by Willie Clayton, a lad of tender years, who sprinted down and jumped into the waterhole. By this time Lippett had gone under. Clayton dived after him. Lippett grasped him by the neck, and they had a terrific struggle. Clayton was almost at the last gasp when a man named A. Lawn appeared and helped the boys out. Lippett was unconscious, and it took Lawn a considerable time to revive him. Young Clayton can only swim a little, and when asked if he was not frightened to* go in he said: “I never thought of it. I co’ild. not let Bobby Lippett drown. ’’
