ELTHAM.

RETAILERS’ ASSOCIATION MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) April 12. The annual general meeting of the Eltham Retailers’ Association was held last evening, Mr. J. W. Stubbs presiding. The balance-sheet showed a debit of 14/5. Mr. Stubbs, in apologising for the absence of a report, stated that tjie year had been a successful one and that there was little else to report beyond the fact that all holidays had been loyally ob- ; served. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson stated ■ that they had made a promise that the ; secretary was to receive an honorarium ; for his services, and he suggested that i the town be canvassed for new mem- ; bens with a view to keeping faith with ; that promise.—lt was decided to do so, ; and a committee consisting of Messrs. ' C. A. Wilkinson, J. W. Stubbs, and H. • G. Carman was appointed to carry out = the Work. The following officers were elected for • the ensuing year:—President, Mr. J. W. ! Stubbs; vice-president, Mr. J. O’Hagan; < secretary (no one would accept thd posi- j tion anti the matter of obtaining one ■ was left in the hands of the president); ; committee, Messrs. G. Peebles, J. Skip- i per, H. G. Carman, C. A. Wilkinson, F. ; H. Ham, and F. Cuff; hon. auditor, Mr. ’ C. B. Martin. Mr. G. D. McGregor was elected a I member of the association. It was decided that the Easter holidays be Good Friday and Easter Monday, and that the shops re-open on Saturday, in accordance with the rules. Mr. Stubbs, in speaking to the holidayquestion said that this was a peculiar town. It would be found that a number of shops would be closed on Easter, Saturday, and he considered that the retailers should be loyal to the association’s rules or make alterations there- ■ (to. Easter Saturday always seemed to | cause confusion, and he thought that the shopkeepers should unite and decide ; on all closing or opening on that day.
