MYSTERIOUS FIRES.
A CROP OF OUTBREAKS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, April 11. The coroner returned an open verdict at the adjourned inquiry into the* mystery fires. Previous messages stated: The fire brigades and police are baffled by mysterious outbreaks of fire at a house at Darling Point, Sydney. Fourteen distinct outbreaks occurred within 24 hours, the police and firemen being compelled to remain on the job an readiness. The dwelling is a ramshackle place, set in a neglected garden. Ghosts have been suggested by some, but a close examination of the furnishings is expected to reveal that mischievous people have saturated the place with a solution containing phosphorus, the evaporation of which is causing the flames. At an inquiry into the fires at Darling Point the coroner’s verdict was that the fires were maliciously caused by some unknown person spraying the furniture with gome chemical liquid which burst into flames after a short exposure to the atmosphere.
