WHY NOT GET OUT?

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Re this J. Diggins, whose letter appeared in the columns of the News a few days ago. Is this the same man who was the author of several disloyal letters during the war, whilst our boys were fighting and dying for New Zealand and the Empire, shedding their blood to defend this man and his home (I presume he has one) ? This J. Diggings of Lepperton then had nothing but disparaging, vile statements and sneers at the flag. Those who were ■ defending it and under the folds of which he has so long prospered and thriven—What is he doing in the Empire in which he has no part? Surely Germany is where he should have been, and never under the glorious Union .lack. If English or Britishers are foreigners to him and men of his type and Bishop Liston, why do they dwell in a ■ foreign land and shelter themselves un- ! der a “foreign” flag, a flag for which i they have neither respect nor love, only cheap sneers? 1 fancy if he were on ■ the continent or even under the -Stars ! and Stripes he would not enjoy the ' liberty and freedom that he has under the flag he affects to despise so much. Surely there should be a limit to the freedom of such as he, and. for whose freedom so many have lain down their lives to uphold, and who has nothing but hatred in return.—l am, etc., BRITISHER. Urenui, April 6.
