CORRESPONDENCE.
BISHOP LISTON’S LETTER. (To the Editor.) Sir,—-May I be allowed to make a few remarks on Bishop Liston’s letter published recently. The thought that entered my mind on perusing it was, Does the Bishop really expect the New Zealand public to believe his statements? After all is said and done, he does not retract the disloyal utterances he made in the Auckland Town Hall. He is merely sorry he has been misunderstood. The Bishop may rest fully assured that he has not been misunderstood in any respect, especially by patriotic New Zealanders. Again, what is the use of talking about and holding up Roman Catholics as law abiding people? Surely the Bishop cannot be serious, No doubt many are, but all sane people know of other seditious remarks that have been made in the past, and rather frequently. Bishop Mannix, for instance. If Roman Catholics are dissatisfied, let them go to the country to which they belong. We do not want their system in our beautiful country—a system which only tends to stir up strife, and which is foreign to the British idea of fair play. .1 may speak strongly, but as a loyal Britisher, I for one, feel that the time has come for drastic measures to be taken towards those who speak against the Empire, no matter what their rank be. Let them be deported to some place where their undesirable influence cannot permeate the wholesome leaven. — 1 am, etc., S.G.H. Waitara, April 10.
