THE REFORM CANDIDATE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —This is a hard world to live in! First I get sundry digs from acquaintances in regard to a letter in your paper signed by a namesake whom I have not even the pleasure of knowing, and now I am called upon to bear some of the contumely arising from Mr. J. O. Taylor’s incorrect quotation from Shakespeare and his references to the habits of cows. This vicarious suffering, however, has its compensations. Mr. J. 0. Taylor, like another object of natural history, is . “an amoosin’ cuss”; his ego is quite well developed (as witness the early part of his letter), and no doubt he will, between now and the general election, contribute, if not to the gaiety of nations, at least to that of Taranaki. —I am, etc., F. DAVIS.
