PRESENTATION OF SHIELD TO manaia. A very interesting function took place at Manaia on Saturday evening, when the championship shield won by Manaia A team for 1921-22 season was formally presented to that team. The presentation was made by Mr. B. McCarthy, president of the Association, the occasion taking the form of a smoke concert. “The Manaia Club” was proposed by» Mr. Page, who congratulated the team on the great honor won by the club in taking the first place both in senior and junior cricket. He hoped that while this was the first time the name t>f Manaia had been on the shield it yjbuld be by no means the last. Mr. Haynes, captain, responding, thanked the members for the hearty enthusiasm shown, and congratulated the players generally on the sporting spirit shown by all. MATCH ABANDONED. The proposed match between South Taranaki and Rangitikei has had to be’ abandoned, as it was found impossible to get a team away for Easter.
