INFECTIOUS DISEASES.

QUARTERLY RECORD. The Inspector of Health has advised the New Plymouth Borough Council that for the quarter ending March 31' last, 17 cases of infectious diseases were notified within the borough, being 42.5 per cent, of the total for the period. Of these cases three were scarlet fever, eleven diphtheria, one enteric (fever, and two chicken, pox. The necessary precautions- were observed in all cages, fifteen having been removed to hospital for treatment, and suitable arrangements were made where insanitary conditions were disclosed. The rate taken on a population basis w&e 1.34 per 1000. When the report was read at a meeting of the council on Friday night, the general manager (Mr. F. T. Bellringer), in reply to a question, said the report was rather better than usual as regards the number of notifications.
