RIFLE SHOOTING
THE TARANAKI SHIELD. NEW PLYMOUTH v. HAWERA. A team of twelve men from the New Plymouth Defence Rifle Club visited Hawera on Saturday and fired ,a match with the Hawera Club, the scores of the first eight men to count for the shield also. The visitors just failed to annex the shield by one point, but won the teams match by 19 points. The team was met at the station by President Jones and Rifleman Roots, and were entertained at luncheon, afterwards being motored to the range. The conditions for shooting were, on the whole, favorable, though the light at times was rather troublesome. Some good scores were registered, possibles being gained at 500 yards by President Jones and Rifleman Ritchie. Detailed scores are as follow:
