METHODIST CHURCH.
CAPE EGMONT CIRCUIT. (Contributed.) The quarterly meeting of the Cape Egmont Methodist Circuit was held in Okato Church on Wednesday, April 5. Representatives were present from Pihama, Opunake, Rahotu, Tataraimaka and Okato. Rev. E. S- Harkness, superintendent minister, presided. The various reports of membership, Sunday school work and harvest appeals were considered satisfactory. Consideration was given to the urgency of the home and foreign missions, owing to the New Zealand Church taking over the Solomon Islands. Committees were set up to deal with matters of importance in the forthcoming annual appeals. The meeting unanimously passed a resolution of grateful appreciation of the services of the Rev. C. Aker, who for the past two years had been in charge of the Okato end of the district. Resolutions of sympathy with Mr. S- Cox, Senr., in his illness, and to Mrs. Barren, in the loss of her daughter, were passed. The ladies of Okato provided afternoon tea. In the evening an appreciative audience assembled to bid farewell to the Rev. and Mrs. Aker and family, prior to leaving for the Northern Wairoa district. An interesting programme was rendered by visitors from Opunake and local talent. Rev. E. S Harkness presided, and referred to the happy relations that existed between himself and the Rev. and Mrs. Aker. Mr. Thomas Hughson, circuit steward, in a happy speech, eulogised Mr. and Mrs. Aker’s services, and, on behalf of the circuit, wished them God-speed. Mr R. F. Roebuck spoke of the good work done by Mr. Aker in connection with the various improvements effected, and, on behalf of the many friends, called on Mr. Pearce to present the guests of the evening with a token of goodwill. Mr. Pearce, in a few well-spoken words, presented Mr. Aker with a roll of notes. Rev. Aker, who was received with applause, in reply, referred to his short stay in such a beautiful place as Okato. He fully appreciated all that had been said regarding himself and family, and was sensible of the many kindnesses received. He hoped his suer nr (Rev. Flower) would be equally weil treated.
