Nolan and Co. report a very heavy entry yesterday, and prices ranged as follow: Hens ,2s to 3s 4d; pullets Gs 6d '.o 9s, small ,3s ’Gd to 4s 9d; ducks, 2s 3d io 3s 6d; gefese, '4s; turkej’ (hen), 7s; cockerels 2s Id to 10s Gd. Messrs. Webster Bros, report having sold at their mart yesterday liens from Is lOd to 2s 3d, pullets 4s, and cockerels Is 7d. , ADDINGTON MARKET. LAMBS IMPROVE IN VALUE. Christchurch, April 5. At the Addington market there were again exceptionally heavy yardlngs of sheep. Stores sold freely, for a good class of sheep particularly. Fat lambs Improved in value by 2s per head. Armour’s operated and secured a proportion. Fat sheep also met with a slightly better sale, but fat . cattle were again a drug, while dairy and store cattle markets showed a little life. Store Sheep.—Another very large yarding. Although scarcely as keen as last week there was a free sale, particularly, for forward wethers, and a good clearance was effected. Forward rape lanfbs made from 15s to 16s 9d, good 13s to 14s 9d, medium 10s to 12s 9d, small 7s 9d to 9s 9d, culls 4s 9d to 7s Gd, good 2-tooth halfbred ewes 2Gs to 30s Gd, ordinary 18s Gd to 23s 6d, Inferior 13s 6d to 16s, good halfbred 4, 6 and 8-tooth ewes 22s to 245, good, crossbreds 18s Gd to 225, ordinary 16s Gd to 18s 3d, inferior Ils to 15s 6d, rape 7s to Us. culls 2s to 6s, forward 4 and 6-tooth wethers 19s to 20s 7d, ordinary 14s 9d to 16s, 2-tooth wethers 13s 6d to 16s. Fat Lambs. —There were 62G2 penned, being 1000 more than last week. There was a sharp advance in values, which averaged B%d to B%d per lb. Extra, prime 'lambs made from 27s 3d to 31s 9d, prime 24s to 275, medium 21s to 23s 9d, light and unfinished 17s to 20s 9d.
Fat Sheep.—A big yarding, 75 per cent, being ewes. Butchers secured the bulk of the wethers, hut “freezers” slightly extended their previous limits for ewes and secured a fair proportion. Extra prime wethers made from 26s 6d to 31s lOd, prime 22s 6d to 25s 6d. medium 19s Gd to 22s 3d, inferior 16s 6d to 19s, extra prime ewes 235, prime 18s to 21s, medium 14s 6d to 17s-Gd, light 12s to 14s 3d. Fat Cattle.—There was again a weak sale, prices scarcely being up to last week’s rates. Extra prime steers brought £l4 ss, prime £8 15s to £l2 ss, medium £6 15s to £8 12s 6d, light £5 to £6 12s 6d, extra prime heifers £8 12s 6(1, prime £5 to £7 15s, ordinary £2 12s 6d to £4 15s, prime cows £4 17s 6d to £7 17s 6d, ordinary cows £2 5s to £4 12s 6d. Vealers.—Anything good sold well at late rates. Runners brought £5 2s 6d, good vealers £3 15s to £4 10s } medium £1 15s to £2 ss, small calves 4s upwards. Store Cattle.—A larger entry, and a better demand than for some time past. Two-year-old steers made from £2 5s to £2 l()s, yearling £1 5s to £ 1.165, 2-year-old heifers £4 10s, yearling and 18-months £2 12s 6d to £3, medium cows £1 10s to £2, inferior 10s to 20s. Dairy Cattle.—A big yarding, and prices about equal to late rates. Second and third calvers close to calving made from £9 to £l5, springiug heifers £9 to £l4, cows In milk £3 to £9. Fat Pigs.—A big entry and a good demand. Bacon ers improved in price, but porkers were about the same. Choppers made from £3 to £5 10s, light baconers £3 10s to £4 ss, heavy £4 10s to £5 5s (average price per lb 6%d to 7d), light porkers 47s to 525, heavy 55s to 60s (average price per lb 8d to B%d). Store Pigs.—A good yarding met with a fair demand. Medium stores made from 30s to 38s, small 18s to 255, good weaners 7s 6d to 10s, sunall 4s to 7s.
BURNSIDE MARKET. HEALTHY TONE SHOWN. Dunedin, April 5. There were large yardlngs in al) departments of fat stock at Burnside today. Prices were firmer for fat cattle, also for prime sheep and fat lambs. Taking the market on the whole the tendency, from the producers’ point of view, was a much healthier one than has lately been the case. Fat Cattle.—Another large yarding of 216 fat cattle of a quality which was fair to good. The sale opened briskly at an advance of 15s above last week’s prices, but towards the close competition eased off considerably, and receded to late rates. The advance was caused by the butchers having to secure a double supply owing to having to close their shops on Thursday evening of next week for the Easter holidays. Prime beef was worth from 25s to 26s per 100 lb, cow beef 18s to 21s, inferior 15s, prime bullocks brought from £ll to £l3 7s Gd, medium £& to £lO 10s, light and unfinished from £7 10s upwards, prime heifers were sold at from £7 15s to £8 15s, medium £6 to £7 ss, light and aged from £4 10s upwards. Sheep.—A good yarding of 3259 head. There was an improveanent in quality as compared with last week’s* offerings. There was good competition during the early part of the sale and prices were high; the demand slackened off, however, the sale closing with prices on a par with last week’s prices, prime wether mutton being worth, on an average, 4y*d per lb and ewe mutton 3%d to 3%d. Extra prime heavyweight wethers brought from 30s to 32s Gd. prime 24s to 295, medium 20s to 235, lighter kinds from 16s Gd upwards, extra prime heavyweight ewes realised up to 25s 3d, prime IQs to 22s 6d, medium 16s to 18s, light and aged from 10s upwards. Lambs. —1712 lambs of medium quality were yarded. For animals suitable for freezing purposes competition was ou a par with last week. Prime lamb was worth round about 7%d per lb. Prices ranged from 15s to 26s 6d. These prices would work out at about 7%d per lb. Pigs.—There was a fair yarding of pigs, all classes being represented. The demand was good and the prices realised were on a par with late rates, but small pigs and suckers sold at low prices. Best baconers brought from 6%d to 7%d per lb, and best porkers from 8d to B%d. Store Cattle.— A large yarding was offered, some of which comprised the finest stores that had been offered at Burnside at any sale during this year. The particular line referred to showed breeding and quality, and realised from £5 10s to £8 Us pethead. Young and backward conditioned cattle were difficult to dispose of and sold at very low rates. THE HAMILTON MARKET. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited. Hamilton, report:— At. Hamilton on Tuesday, April 4. we had mi average yarding of all classes of stock and a complete and satisfactory clearance. Fat cattle improved slightly, com petit ion being brisk to the conclusion. Steers made to .£7 ss, medium quality £5 5s to £5 15s, light and improved £4 2s Gd to £4 12s 6d, cows made to- £8 10s. This for a wellfinished maiden heifer, ordinary cow beef realised from £3 to- £4 18s. Forward steers reacted £4 15s, others from £3 15s. Grown steers in store condition were again hard to quit, values ranging from £2 18s to £3 Bs, rough quality 37s to £2 2s, fresh conditioned cows ran from £1 Ils to £2, stores from 17s 6d to £1 2s Gd, heifers in eslf small and inferior sold from £3 IQs to

Competition for sheep was briak throughout and. practically the whole entry changed hands* Wethers made from 22a 9d to 23s 9d for well-finished medium weights, lighter sorts from 19s, ewes from 13s 9d to 15s 6d, forward wethers 16s lOd. Small fat lambs to 15s 3d. Store lambs were in good demand and sold readily, the best making from 10s to 12s Id. Fat pigs were penned in average numbers and -were better value than last week, competition being steadier from, a larger gathering'of buyers. Store pigs also improved, everything yarded finding a ready sale. Choppers sold from £2 to £3 15b/ baconers £3 <6s to £3 18s, heavy porkers to light baconers £2 10s to £3 3s, light to medium porkers'. .£1 16s to £2,65, forward stores £1 10s .to £1 18s, slips ’ 14a to £l. ss, best weanerg 8s to 14s, smaller sorts 2s to 7s.
