THE QUESTION OF LOYALTY. MOVE AT INVERCARGILL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, April 7. A largely attended meeting ot the Invercargill branch of the Post and Telegraph Association discussed the recent ballot and resolved, with one dissentient, that the meeting assures the Postmaster-General of its unswerving loyalty, and urges that every Government servant take the oath of allegiance to King and country. A HASTINGS PROTEST. BUSINESS MEN’S VIEWS. Hastings, April 7. nie executive of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce this morning unanimously passed the following resolution: “That this chamber regards the linking up of a department of the civil service with the Alliance of Labor, or any such declared militant and direct action organisation, as a determined challenge to constitutional control and a menace to democratic government and the trade and industries of the Dominion. This executive therefore urges the Government to take such steps as will ensure the maintenance of its absolute undivided power and authority in control of the post and telegraphs, so that the main artery of the country’s communications shall at all times, especially at the time of industrial strife, be at the service of the constitutionally elected Government of the people of New Zealand.”
SYMPATHY OF RAILWAYMEN. Wanganui, April 7. A meeting of East own workshop employees to-day passed a resolution congratulating the P. and T. Association on the result of the ballot to join the Alliance of Labor, also deprecating the action of various Chambers of Commerce and other semi-public bodies, who, by hysterical propaganda through the public Press, were endeavoring to stamede the Government to prevent government by a majority in a lawfully constituted organisation. LABOR COUNCIL’S RESOLUTION. Dunedin. April 7. The Otago Labor Council forwarded congratulations to the P. and T. Association on its emphatic* vote for the affiliation with the . Alliance of Labor.
