‘Three “push” bicycles, in various stages of disrepair, and a brief bag containing a pair of light working trousers, were offered at auction at New Plymouth yesterday on behalf of the inspector *of police. The articles had been found by the .police, and as they had remained unclaimed for the requisite period of two years, they were accordingly sold. The bicycles realised the sums of £2 17s 6d, £2 5s and £ n 12s 6d respectively, whilst the brief bag and contents were bought for 10s. This is the first, sale of unclaimed property held by the police since Taranaki was formed into a separate police district. Tn connection with the money voted by the Peace Oompiittee to the Victoria League for the care and upkeep of the soldiers’ plot in the local cemetery, the executive at a meeting on Wednesday appointed the president (Mrs Burgess) and Mr. IV. H. Skinner as a vntr graves committee. Tt was decided <o invite the president and 6ecretarj r of' the Returned Soldiers’ Association to \co-.oper-ate with the committee. The yictoria League wish to heartily thank the members of the Peace Committee for their decision to help in this necessary work. Knitting is a great pastime for ladies, hut wool is required. A splendid quality 4-ply knitting wool, in a full range of shades, at the reasonable price of 1 s for the double skein, can be purchased at C. C. Ward’s three stores at Neiv Plymouth, Hawera and Eltham.
