CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
TROUBLE OVER PUBLICITY. DISPUTE SENT TO THE COURT By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The refusal of the assessors for the Federated Seamen’s Union to discuss the dispute filed by the ship-owners, when the matter was under consideration by the Conciliation Council, brought the proceedings to an abrupt termination, and the matter was referred to the Arbitration Court. Mr. W. T. Young, general secretary of the Federated Seamen’s Union, objected to the discussion of the dispute being in camera, and he demanded publicity for the whole proceedings. The commissioner, Mr- Harle Giles, said that for the last thirteen years discussions had been in committee, unless both sides desired open discussion. The assessors for the owners favored committee proceedings, and the commissioner said he was not prepared to deviate from the custom.
