The Waikato Times thus refers tn Mr. IT. Moore Jones, who met his death in the hotel fire in Hamilton: “Several of
those saved are indebted for the'v salvation to the self-sacrifice of the late Mr. H. Moore Jones, who, in his efforts to rescue others ignored his own risk and despised his great injuries. He gave his life for others. One of thos.e associated with him states that he was actually outside, 'but went into the inferno again in order to direct others to safety, and he remained at his selfchosen post until his own escape was cut off. The late Mr. Moore Jones has had a notable career. He answered the call of duty when the fiery cross was promulgated in the day of the nation’s stress, and he comported himself right valiantly, winning the commendation of his officers, and was honored by the King, but at no time was he a more heroic figure than when he so gamely gave up his life in order that others might live. He has left an example of self-sacrifice and self abnegation worthy of emulation and admiration.”
