ATHLETICS.
KAPONGA SPORTS CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the general committee of the Kaponga Sports Club was held on Monday night, Mr. A. O. Casey being in the chair. A donation of £5 5s from Dr. J. R. Boyd, patron of the club, was received, and it was resolved to send a letter of thanks to the patron; also to Mr. Roberts for a donation of 10s 6d. Tenders were received for booths, and those of Mrs. Bevan and Mr. Hey were accepted. Prices for band at sports were also received, and the Opunake Band, of twenty-five players, was engaged for the day. Two large tents are to be procured. A ladies’ race whs added to the programme, a gold brooch donated by Mrs. Lissaman being offered as the first prize and a pair of silk hose donated by Mr. A. Waugh as second. Mr. C. H. Drysdale, of Auckland, through Mr. Casey, presented a beautiful hockey stick' for second prize in the school boys’ championships. It was decided to ask the Chamber of Commerce to close business places at 10 o’clock on the morning of the sports. The secretary reported that the running track had been mowed up and cut, and was now in tip-top order. Entries are coming in. and the secretary reported that on the programme no prize money was stated for the relay race. He had omitted to. state that four gold medals were allotted to the winning team; also that the third prize in the 100 yards was 30s, instead of 20s, as shown on the programme.
