LOWER CHARGES.
FOR MARKETING MEAT. SHIPPING, FREEZING AND RAILAGE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board to-day made a definite announcement in regard to the foreshadowed reduction in charges for marketing beef to meet crises in the industries. The representatives of the overseas shipping companies have advised the board that a reduction in trade rates to the United Kingdom has been made of £d per lb. on frozen beef shipped between 15th May and 31st October inclusive. This redue/ion has been effected on the understanding that similar reductions are to be made by the freezing companies anJL the Railway Department. The great majority of freezing companies have agreed to meet the position by reductions equivalent to id per pound in slaughtering and freezing charges, and it is anticipated that all freezing companies will, fall into line. The New Zealand Government has also agreed to reduce railway rates on beef for export and on live fat cattle.
