Orders for papers may also be left with him. SOCCER FOOTBALL CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. April 4. The annual meeting of the Stratford Association Football Club was held last night, the attendance being small. Mr. T. Smith presided. The balance-sheet showed a debit balance of £1 15s.
The chairman said they had had a very lean time last year, about 40 members joining, but only 25 paying their subscriptions. The subscription of 5s did not give much to work on, and the club had no gates to assist them. They had been informed that it would cost £75 to bring the New South Wales team to Taranaki, and, there being only three clubs in Taranaki, the cost would be £25 each.
A letter from the Taranaki Football Association was read, stating that the amount required to guarantee the visit of the New South Wales team on June 28 had been arranged in New Plymouth, and it was certain that Taranaki would be included in the itinerary.
Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Patron, Mr- R. Masters, M.P.; president, Mr. T. Smith; vice-presidents, Messrs. E. Carryer, A. H. Hillock, W. G. Liddell, F. J. Hopkins, W. H. Kelley, IlDavidson, W. Perry and Harold Masters; club captain, C. Milner; secretary, W. Casey; treasurer, A. G. Lowry; selectors, Messrs. Perry and Smith ; coach, Mr. Perry; committee, Messrs. E- Selby, C. Milner, W. Perry, A. G. Lowry, H. Webber; cus- < todian, Mr. F. Moffatt. < Mr. A. Thompson was accorded a vote of thanks for his promise to donate a bail to the club.
The first practice was fixed for Thursday next, at Victoria Park.
GENERAL ITEMS.
Miss Lorna Forbes, of- Wharehuia, has just received her A.T.C.L. certificate. She commenced her musical education in 1913, gaining the maximum marks in the preparatory division, and in 1914 she gained a world scholarship, being the youngest child of the Trinity College entrants to gain the maximum marks in the junior division. Miss Forbes, who is now only seventeen years old, passed four examinations this year, has gained honors in six examinations, and if she passes the examination in June next for her Licentiate certificate will be entitled to the Trinity College Certificate of Merit, which is awarded to those who pass the whole of the college’s examinations and which is held by very few persons.
The funeral of the late Mrs. E. Calvert took place at Kopuatama Cemetery today, there being a large attendance of relatives, friends and neighbors from all parts of the district, as a mark of sympathy with the family of the deceased lady. The Rev. Father Kelly, Whangamomona, officiated.
